Austria

Austria, the land of palaces, castles and food! Vienna is the capital of Austria and it is a beautiful place to travel to. I got the opportunity to explore Vienna recently and try out some of the foods that the city is know for.

Wiener Schnitzel

Wiener schnitzel is the national dish of Austria and it can be found at nearly every restaurant in Vienna. This dish originates from the idea of taking a piece of tough meat and tenderizing it by pounding it with a meat tenderizer.

The original schnitzel is made from veal but you can find many different variations throughtout the city such as schnitzel made from chicken and beef.

Apple Strudel

No trip to Austria is complete without trying out some apple Strudel. This was my favorite dish during my trip and I had no problem finishing this huge piece of strudel. 

I was surprised to find that they do not typically serve the strudel with ice cream, like they do back in the States. In Vienna it is served with either whipped cream or a vanilla sauce. This combination of the strudel and whipped cream made for a perfect dessert.

Vienna was a wonderful trip filled with adventure and new foods. I enjoyed trying weiner schnitzel for the first time and having amazing apple strudel. Stay tuned for more travels and new food experiences.
