Tel Aviv Street Food

Tel Aviv's Food Scene

Tel Aviv is a young and vibrant city. Even though it is located in the Middle East it has lots of European influences in its culture and food. I got the opportunity to visit Tel Aviv in November and of course I had to check out their food scene. Here it what I found!

Carmel Market

Carmel Market is your number one destination if you are looking for fresh and local foods. There is no better way to get to know a city then by wondering through its street markets. Carmel Market is the biggest market in Tel Aviv and you can find hundreds of colorful stalls selling everything from spices to undergarments. Below is a picture I snapped during the hustle and bustle of walking the market. I went on a Friday afternoon and it packed with locals and tourist alike.

Many residents do their weekly shopping at Carmel .This surprised me because it was so chaotic just walking through the market. I couldn't image trying to buy my groceries for the week here. But markets like this are often less expensive then retail stores and the freshest products.

Panda Pita

We stopped for lunch at a small stall off a side street of the market. This place had about 60 people waiting outside for their food. It was clearly THE place to eat at. We were at Panda Pita in Carmel Market. You could see the workers preparing the fresh food right in front of you. What made it so special is that they were jamming out to rap music as they were  preparing it. They truly looked happy to be making this awesome food.

As you can see in the picture below they created a beautiful masterpiece inside this peta bread. They get all of their ingredients from their neighbors in Carmel Market. I got the Sloppy Pita with lamb meat. The meat was warm and delicious and the Peta bread was fluffy and light. This was my favorite meal during my time in Tel Aviv. I highly suggest Panda Pita to anyone in the Tel Aviv area.
